Synthesis of a novel highly efficient flame-retardant coating for cotton fabrics with low combustion toxicity and antibacterial properties

The synthesis of multi-function flame retardants is widely increasing to fulfill industrial and economic goals. In this work, a novel retardant, melamine salt tannic phosphate (MTP) was prepared characterized. MTP mixed with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution used as coating for cotton fabrics. addition, acid (TA) (MP) were PVA applied Vertical horizontal flammability tests showed that the did not propagate in samples treated PVA/MTP. contrast, PVA/TA/MP burnt completely. Limiting oxygen index (LOI) data indicated PVA/30%MTP reached LOI value 68.4%, while control sample had 17.1%. Smoke density results presented PVA/MTP succeeded reducing maximum specific optical (Ds max) FTIR gas analyzer manifested addition fabrics decreased emission CO, CO2, C3H8, C2H6, C6H14, formaldehyde phase. Fractional effective dose (FED) lethal toxic potency (LC50) coated are less than blank. these exhibited remarkable antibacterial property against gram-positive gram-negative bacteria.
